Dear Friends,

The Passover/Pesach season is an opportunity for us to contemplate many aspects of our approach to Jewish education and inspiration.

The key text for Pesach, the Haggadah recounting our Exodus from Egypt and the related Mitzvot, is a fantastic lesson for us in educational methodology. In any successful educational system, differentiation – the ability to engage each student based on his or her needs, strengths and preferences – is critical in order to reach every child. The Haggadah’s message of “k’neged arbah banim dibra Torah,” the Four Sons, is a model for us in differentiation. This is King Solomon’s message to us as well in his advice “hanokh l’na’ar al pi darko” – educate each youth according to his own way.

In NCSY, we pride ourselves in our ability to engage every teen, bringing Judaism to life for each one in a way that’s meaningful to them. Each week, hundreds of Jewish kids join our Latte and Learning programs, our Shabbatonim, or our public high school clubs – and each finds something unique that speaks to him or her. We look forward to even more innovation and creativity in the coming months as we dedicate ourselves to this Pesach concept of differentiation in education.

Wishing you a very happy Pesach holiday, and wishing us all success in our endeavor to engage and inspire each Jewish soul!

Rabbi Micah Greenland
CEO/Regional Director, Midwest NCSY

TJJ – The Jerusalem Journey, and what a journey it was. You hop off the plane meeting in New
York from your individual states, to see huge amounts of teenagers your age. What is going on here?
Well, you’re all here to join and experience a journey with fellow Jewish teens, entering the land, our
land, the state of Israel. Some of us have been there before, others are first timers. Little did you know
you would fall in love with the land and people you’ve spent a month with.
Get yourself prepared for the most action packed, insane, yet extremely laid back summer of
your life! Your about to spend a month climbing mountains, hiking, swimming, repelling, snorkeling,
touring, learning, visiting, laughing until it hurts, smiling, tasting, smelling, touching the holiest place on earth, Israel. My summer on TJJ bus 2 will never be forgotten. I have never made such good friends I can truly call family, we all care so deeply about each other and have each other’s backs no matter what.

It was this way from day 2 and remains this way currently. Not only are the TJJers amazing, but the advisors are just fantastic! Rabbi Donny goes literally above and beyond for his TJJ children. He knows what it takes to make them smile, and if they need personal help, he’ll drop anything for them. Our

advisors are some of the most relatable and understanding people I have ever come across. They all
have such depth and soul, that we TJJers went out of our way sometimes to have discussions with them,
whether it was Jewish based, or personal questions and opinion.
This was my first time in Israel, and I am so thankful that I got to experience it with TJJ. I was
planning on going to Israel for a gap year, but I think if I never went on TJJ, I wouldn’t have grasped
Israel the way I have. We land in Israel and I feel like crying, it was one of the most overwhelming
experiences of my life. Stepping foot on these grounds that have so much history! You feel like every
step is a page flipping in a Jewish text. Every step is an eye opening experience. Every step is
breathtaking. Not only for the natural beauty, but the beauty of the people and culture surrounding you.
My experience in Israel changed my life. Not to sound cliché, but really. Not only because I climbed
insane mountains and conquered all, but my outlook on Israel and Judaism itself grew as a whole. For
some weird reason TJJ can do that to a person. TJJ is an amazing program and I’m proud to be a part of
the 2011 TJJ bus 2 family
