Rayli Kopelman (r.) from Kansas left the Midwest Fall Regional Shabbaton with more than an increased desire to learn and grow as a Jew. She left with a copy of Mesillat Yesharim in her backpack – and a commitment to learn once a week with a Midwest volunteer advisor.
Rayli is just one of nearly 50 teens who signed up at the Shabbaton to learn with an advisor, and who received the Jewish book of their choice thanks to the Buy-a-Book Program.
The Buy-a-Book Program was launched in September to ensure that every teen who wants to study Torah has that opportunity. Dozens of community members came forward to sponsor books, and the requests for books – and the chance to learn with advisors – keep coming in.
“It was gratifying to see how many community members came forward to sponsor books,” says Midwest Regional Director Shosh Friedman.
“Thanks to our donors, we were able to bring dozens of books and sefarim to the Shabbaton and give every teen who wanted, the chance to study Torah.”
